*Our Catalytic Carbon is derived from Virgin-Grade Coconut Shells, is not impregnated with chemicals and has been activated via a proprietary process which yields carbon with a surface pore area capable of catalytic activity, catalytic activity simply means the carbon's ability to speed up decomposition of chemicals that come in contact with it.   This carbon is 15x more effective than regular activated carbon at reducing some of the most persistant and evasive water chemicals such as Chloramine.

Chloramine (Monochloramine) is ammonia + chlorine combined, and is a type of chlorine substitute disinfectant that's now being widely added to our water supply, it can also result from chlorine binding with ammonia that's produced in the water as a result of decaying organic matter.  The Chloramine molecule is very small and bypasses even the microscopic reverse osmosis membrane pores, therefore, one of the most effective methods to deal with this contaminant is to decompose and adsorb it with catalytic carbon.

Further, because we use virgin grade coconut shell carbon, which has been acid washed to enhance it's purity, this carbon possesses superior overall chemical absorption capacity, this capacity is determined by a standardized test parameter called an "Iodine number".  The Iodine Number indicates the degree of "activation" and micro-pore content.  This number for most activated carbons ranges from 500-1200, our Catalytic Carbon measures in at an Iodine No. of 1237.  Combine this powerful chemical absorption with the enhanced chemical decomposition of catalytic activity along with the micro pores and purity of virgin coconut shell and you get one of the most effective performing carbons on the market today.
