1. EDCs = Endocrine Disruptor Chemicals: Various synthetic or organic chemicals that are considered "hormonally active" and may interfere or interrupt body's natural hormonal chemistry.  Various pharmaceuticals, steroids, plasticizers (Bisphenol-A or BPA), surfactants and industrial pesticides such as DDT are considered Endocrine or Hormonal Disruptors and should not be in the water.

2. MTBE = Methylbuterene: A volatile gasoline additive, which often passes through even the Reverse Osmosis membrane.  

3. THMs = Trihalomethanes: A class of chemicals that are formed when water disinfection chemicals, e.g. Chlorine, Bromine combine with organic matter as it makes its way to your faucet. Some common THM's are: Chloroform, Fluoroform (HFC), Bromoform, Idioform and Chlorodifluoromethane (HCFC),

4. SOCs = Synthetic Organic Chemicals:  Man made contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides and other urban, agricultural and industrial runoffs.  Some examples are DDT, 

5. VOCs = Volatile Organic Chemicals:  These are various forms of petroleum derived chemical byproducts such as Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene.
