I highly recommend purchasing a water filter through Pure Effects. I became aware of this company after taking a course from Lara Adler at laraadler.com and from the recommendation of Irina Webb at ireadlabelsforyou.com. Before purchasing the filter, I contacted Pure Effects with several questions. Igor responded promptly each time. I felt he was very knowledgeable and stood behind his products. After purchasing the filter, I had the filtered water tested by TapScore/Simplelab (Essential City Water Test). This tests for 45 analytes, including heavy metals, nitrate, and fluoride. The test score came back at 97 out of 99, an excellent score. I had further questions regarding some particulars and Igor was again very responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. I am very pleased with the decision I made to go with Pure Effects and would highly recommend this company for anyone looking to filter their water.
Some things I learned through the process: 1) find out what your source water’s natural fluoride content is. I was under the impression, prior to doing research on filters, that all fluoride in water was added by water companies, but that is not correct. Natural fluoride can be in the form of the insoluble mineral calcium fluoride. Water companies treat water with sodium fluoride, fluorosilicic acid, or sodium fluorosilicate. My city’s water source has a natural fluoride content of ~ 0.2 ppm, then they add additional fluoride to reach 0.7 ppm. Thankfully, Pure Effects fluoride filter did effectively reduce fluoride back to natural fluoride levels. 2) Look at your city water division’s “Annual Consumer Confidence Report” and www.ewg.org/tapwater/ to see what contaminants are being reported. I found the contaminants I was most concerned about and tried to match that up with a filter I was confident would reduce those levels. Igor was very helpful in this process and we were able to effectively target fluoride and nitrates by choosing specific filters for the system. 3) Make sure when you look at the “comprehensive contaminant screening” for each of the PE units that you understand that this report is there to show that the PE filters themselves do not leach contaminants and that minerals remain after filtration. This was helpful to understand during the process.
Again, I am very pleased with the experience I have had with Pure Effects, and I highly recommend their services to anyone searching for a water filter!

I set up my water filtration system a few weeks ago and haven't bought any plastic jugs of water since. It was easy to setup, however it did not work with my kitchen faucet. I guess I have one of the 10% of faucets that are incompatible. However, I was able to install it in my downstairs bathroom which is right next to the kitchen. I like the fact that my water is purified but still has minerals. It is very convenient to use when cooking and I keep a glass jug of water in the fridge. I also use the purified water to fill my humidifier. I highly recommend this product.

Installing was very easy with no leaks common with other manufacturers. I chose the countertop model since I do plan to move some time in the future. This product was recommended by a friend's family member who lives in the DC area and had researched as much as I had before purchasing.
I live in an area where water purity is a concern. Even after the city flushed the water, I ran it for several minutes and the water cleared. It would have been questionable for me to drink water, had I not owned and used this system.

Great system except too much water drains after shut off

The build quality and water quality are great, and flow rate is a bit slow but adequate. However, after we shut off the system, a lot of water drains, it flows about 20 seconds, until the water level drains down in the visible cartridge holder (so I assume in the other two) down to the level of the outlet, so. I assume this is some small adjustment that needs to be made but couldn't find a troubleshooting guide or how to fix online.
Great system and I'll give 5 stars across the board if we can get it to waste only a little water.

Thank you for your review. We are very glad to hear the system and water quality are great! To clarify a few points you mentioned: 1. The flow rate is designed to be apx. 1/2 Gallon/minute, which is purposely made this way to ensure it's not flowing through too quickly and thus filtering more thoroughly. If it's taking more than 15 seconds to fill an 8oz glass, please call us and we'll help resolve it, otherwise, it's intended to be this way. 2. The slight dripping you mention for about 20 seconds is normal function of countertop filter systems as they have to depressurize after the water is turned off, this is not a defect or something that needs to be fixed. To avoid wasting even this little drips of water, we recommend to turn off the system a little sooner, say when your cup is about 2/3 full and let it continue filling. Also, you can purchase a little rubber cap from a third party (e.g. amazon.com) and cover the spout opening after each use if you'd like.

I use to buy bottled water, use to, until a friend of mine gave me a drink of water. It was chilled and I immediately felt truly refreshed. My body wanted more. After drinking a few more glasses, I knew I just had to buy my own. The system is responsibly priced compared to other filtration systems. However, it was how I felt that was the real factor as to why I bought one.
